Annie E. Casey Foundation

Atlanta is one of two cities designated by the Annie E. Casey Foundation as a “civic site”—a place where the Foundation has a long-term commitment to improving the futures of at-risk children. For more than 60 years, the Casey Foundation has worked to help vulnerable children and families throughout America, but we have a special connection with Atlanta, which became the UPS headquarters in 1993. UPS grew out of a small messenger service started in 1907 by a teenager named Jim Casey in order to help his widowed mother support him and his three younger siblings. The company’s later success allowed Jim Casey and his siblings to launch a charitable foundation in 1948 named for their mother, Annie E. Casey.

The Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta

Since 1951 The Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta has been connecting community members, nonprofits and other partners to strengthen the Atlanta region through philanthropy. As a community foundation, we focus on four key goals:

  • Engage our community
  • Strengthen our region’s nonprofits
  • Advance public will
  • Practice organizational excellence

United Way of Metropolitan Atlanta

United Way of Metropolitan Atlanta engages all segments of our community to drive sustainable change in education, income, health and homelessness while continuing to address urgent and basic human care.

Our vision is for metro Atlanta to be a place where all individuals and families thrive. We are working on six important goals to ensure our community thrives:

  • Babies are born healthy
  • Children enter school ready to learn and graduate prepared for careers
  • Young people avoid risky behavior
  • Families are self-sufficient
  • People have access to primary health care
  • Homeless people are housed within a year

Knight Foundation

Knight Foundation supports transformational ideas that promote quality journalism, advance media innovation, engage communities and foster the arts. We believe that democracy thrives when people and communities are informed and engaged. The Knight Foundation's Community Information Challenge program granted a small amount to Neighborhood Nexus to foster better citizen engagement through the provision of data and tools, so they can better tell their stories.
